The 2024-25 fresh pear crop estimate for Washington and Oregon is 10.6 million standard box equivalents. This is a 31% decrease from the five-year average. Washington and Oregon grow 84% of the U.S. commercial fresh pear crop.

Bosc pears are the most affected, with a 62% drop from last year. This is attributed to the cumulative effects of intense freezes over the last couple of years. Green Anjou pears are down 36%.

The organic pear crop is expected to total 1.4 million boxes or 13% of the harvest.

Harvest began in early August for Starkrimson and Bartlett pears, followed by Bosc and Anjou varieties. Specialty varieties like Comice and Seckel will be harvested by late September. Despite the reduced crop, Pear Bureau Northwest (PBNW) promises a high-quality consumer experience.
