In December 2023, the U.S. Apple Association reported inventories were up 33% year over year. The increase is attributed to two consecutive years of larger yields. As a result, producers and industry advocates predict a strong opportunity for retailers to promote apples in 2024.

Even with two excellent years in a row, growers are looking ahead to 2024. While there are no official estimates, producers are not expecting a third supercrop. Many expect the year will look closer to average. However, the industry will also be dealing with continued increases in labor and production costs.
