Agriculture Secretary nominee Brooke Rollings met with Senators last week to address key questions on trade, immigration and nutrition before her upcoming confirmation vote. Although the timing of the vote has yet to be announced, Politico reports that Rollins is expected to sail through the process with bipartisan support.

Rollings said she continues to back Trump’s agenda, but she will work with other agencies and staff to address concerns on policies like tariffs and mass deportation. Some Democrats want to hear more about her approach to DEI, bird flu, nutrition and immigration at the USDA. Republicans point to Rollin’s relationship with Trump as a key strength that will help her defend agriculture.

Trump is already using tariff threats as a negotiating tool. On Sunday, he proposed a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Columbia after two U.S. military aircraft with detained Colombian migrants were turned away. The tariffs were put on hold after the U.S. and Colombian officials reached an agreement Sunday night allowing unrestricted acceptance of deportation flights.

Trump has also made sweeping tariff threats against top trading partners like China, Mexico and Canada.
