Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced $35 million in grants through the Fertilizer Production Expansion Program (FPEP) for seven projects in California, Iowa, New York, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin. These grants, ranging from $776,819 to $11.77 million, target innovative fertilizer solutions that reduce costs and improve fertilization efficiency.

Vilsack emphasized the importance of developing new technologies, like sensors, to optimize fertilizer use and avoid overfertilization.

Since its inception, FPEP has awarded $286.6 million across 64 projects in 32 states. Additional projects are under review, with more announcements expected in the coming months. This program is part of a broader effort to improve U.S. agricultural practices and support farmers by reducing input costs and enhancing sustainability through better fertilizer management.
