The pecan producers and importers voted to continue the American Promotion Board’s research and promotion program. A referendum was held May 10 through June 10, and 74.89% of pecan producers and importers voted in favor of the program.

The Pecan Promotion, Research and Information Order mandated that the USDA conduct a referendum no later than three years after the first assessment collection. Follow-up referendums must be conducted every seven years or at the request of 10% or more of all eligible pecan producers and importers.

Authorized under the Commodity Promotion, Research and Information Act of 1996, the program is positioned to strengthen the position of pecans in the marketplace. This includes maintaining and expanding markets and developing new uses.
