Georgia soybean producer Alex Harrel recorded a soybean yield of 218.2856 bushels per acre. This broke his previous world record of 206 bushels per acre last year.

Alex and his brother Rodney farm approximately 4,000 acres in Lees and Sumpter Counties. The record-setting crop used Pioneer P49Z02E seed planted on single, 30-inch rows with a seeding rate of 110,000 seeds per acre and a final stand of 105,000 plants per acre. This crop matured ahead of most Georgia soybeans.

In the week ending August 11, the USDA reported that 90% of Georgia’s soybeans had started blooming and 71% began setting pods. Soybean conditions across the state were rated as 6% excellent, 58% good, 28% fair, 7% poor and 1% very poor.
