Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed an executive order that imposes strict guidelines on state agencies and contractors regarding the procurement of lab-grown meat. He also directed the Nebraska Department of Agriculture to initiate a rulemaking process that will guarantee lab-grown meat products are clearly labeled and not placed alongside natural meat on store shelves.

In addition to the executive order and initiation of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture rulemaking process, Pillen announced plans to help push legislation to ban lab-grown meat in Nebraska. These initiatives are intended to protect the state’s agricultural industry and consumers.

Nebraska became the fourth state to take a stand against lab-grown meat. The other states include Iowa, Florida and Alabama.
