View of field of cord seedlings in springA large portion of the corn-producing region has moved into the late planting stages this past week. Discussions among farmers in areas affected by adverse weather are turning to prevented planting.

The final planting date for corn in Iowa, most of Minnesota and Wisconsin, eastern Missouri, southeastern North Dakota, southeastern South Dakota and most of Kentucky was May 31. Iowa has witnessed persistent rain, with 88% of the crop planted on May 26. Minnesota reported 89% planted, Wisconsin had 78% planted, and Kentucky had 73% planted.

The final corn planting date for Kansas, Nebraska, parts of Missouri, most of South Dakota and North Dakota and the northern counties of Minnesota and Wisconsin was May 25. Famers in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan reach their final planting date on June 5.

Most states were ahead of the five-year planting pace.
