An Iowa State University (ISU) Land Value Survey found that Iowa farmland values fell 3.1% in 2024. The statewide farmland value on November 1, 2024 was $11,467 per acre. This was a $369 per acre decrease from the previous year.

ISU had respondents rank the positive and negative factors affecting the farmland values.

Positive factors:

  • 23% reported limited land supply
  • 16.5% mentioned strong yields
  • 12.1% indicated a combination of cash on hand and credit availability


Negative factors:

  • 33.8% reported lower commodity prices
  • 30% indicated interest rate increases in recent years
  • 9.3% said input prices were higher
  • 3.1% mentioned cash and credit availability
  • 2.8% were uncertain about the weather
  • 2.7% cited inflation
  • 2.1% reported uncertainty surrounding agricultural profitability
