The annual ritual of the July 4 barbeque will come at a steep price this year. It will cost $99.00 to host a 10-person barbeque, according to the 2024 Rabobank BBQ Index, which measures the cost of staple ingredients. As food inflation trends higher, this may be the last barbeque under $100.00.

In 2018, this same 10-person barbeque cost $73.00. Last year, it rose to $97.00. Beef, beer, soda and lettuce will make up 64% of this year’s cost. However, the attraction of eating at home continues to gain momentum as 68% of consumers polled by Vericast are switching from restaurants to grocery stores. This trend is gaining momentum as 81% of restaurant operators increased prices to cover their costs.

This year, many barbeque fans were expected to shop for bargains and switch up cuts of meats, according to Christine McCracken, senior poultry analyst at Rabobank.
