The harvest season continues to run ahead of the five-year averages with 30% of the corn and 47% of the soybeans harvested as of October 6. The USDA NASS reported that 87% of the corn is mature. This is ahead of the 81% five-year average. Estimates place 64% of the corn still in fields in good/excellent condition, and 13% was in very poor/poor condition.

The USDA NASS reported that 90% of soybeans were dropping their leaves. This is above the five-year average of 85%. Harvest jumped 21% ahead from the previous week to reach 47% complete. That increase is ahead of the five-year average of 34%.

The USDA NASS estimates that 63% of the soybeans in the field are in good-to-excellent condition. This is ahead of last year’s rating of 51% good/excellent.

Winter wheat planting progress surged ahead 12% to reach 51% complete. This is a little behind the five-year average of 52%. An estimated 25% of winter wheat had emerged.
