The USDA, EPA and FDA have recently joined together to combat food waste in the U.S. The agencies have jointly published a public comment period for new strategies that prevent food loss and reduce food waste. The first draft of the National Strategy for Reducing Food Loss and Waste and Recycling Organics outlines a myriad of actions by the agencies to mitigate adverse environmental impacts stemming from wasted food.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says food loss and waste posses a real challenge to agriculture, the food industry and the climate. And he says tackling this problem will in contribute to efforts that build a resilient food system.
