Farmland sales continue to draw attention as more records are squashed. The latest eyebrow-raising sales include a $34,800 per acre sale in Missouri last fall and a $22,000 per acre sale in Iowa. The ongoing transactions prove the buzz in the market isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. However, declining commodity prices could change that.

While no declines in sales have been seen yet, according to Paul Schadegg of Farmers National Company (FNC), there is an uptick in the number of sales that have seen price reductions on listings. Farmers continue to be the top purchasers of farmland acres, with most sales going north of $20,000 per acre. Farmland values are only down 1% from 2022 to 2023, pointing to the resiliency and demand in the market.
