As farm bill progress remains stagnant even as the September deadline draws closer, farmers are becoming doubtful that any farm bill will be completed in 2023. Doubt over a farm bill and positivity in the ag market have increased this spring, as noted in the most recent Ag Economy Barometer reading.

In the survey, 32% of farmers said a farm bill was “very unlikely” or “somewhat unlikely,” whereas 35% reported feeling “uncertain.” Nearly half of corn and soybean farmers shared that crop insurance is the most critical section of the farm bill. Producers were also divided on whether the farm bill would increase reference prices.
