Pinkeye is a pain for livestock producers. Dairy farmers spend much time thinking about, identifying, and treating pinkeye. It’s not hard to get pinkeye when you’re a dairy cow. There could be spots in the pen or specific movements that make it easy to get infected.

To prevent this, it’s essential to walk the perimeter of a pen before moving in new cows to look for anything that could cause eye irritation. Producers may also consider prebiotics, probiotics or postbiotics to add to feed to help balance the microbiome during stress periods.
