The USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service reported lower-than-expected Mexican corn production and increased demand for animal feed, which are driving expectations for more U.S. corn exports. Mexico already ranks as the largest consumer of U.S. corn.

According to the report, Mexico will purchase 22 million metric tons of U.S. corn in the 2023 to 2024 year, which started in October. That represents an increase from 21.1 million tons last year. From 2024 to 2025, the report estimates a further increase to 22.2 million tons.

Current corn production in Mexico is estimated to be 22.7 million tins. This is a decrease from 28.1 million tons last year. That is expected to increase to 25 million tons in 2024 to 2025 with a return to more average rainfall.
