The U.S. Grains Council is projecting the 2024 corn crop harvest to be the third largest on record. The weather played a large role, helping prevent widespread crop stress and hasten drydown.

The update comes from the council’s 2024/2025 Corn Harvest Quality Report. According to the findings, 2024 also brought the highest 100-kernel weight in the report’s history. The crop’s quality was also high, with nearly 90% of samples meeting U.S. No. 1 grade requirements. More than 96% qualified as U.S. No. 2 grade corn.

Even with the positive outlook on the year, the weather wasn’t kind to every farmer. Farmers from across the Midwest reported issues, from hail to drought. However, the effects were often isolated, sometimes differing from field to field.
