In the USDA’s latest Crop Progress Report, 96% of the 2024 corn crop in the 18 top corn-growing states reached the dent stage. This progress is slightly ahead of the five-year average of 95%. As of September 29, 75% of the corn crop had reached maturity, ahead of the five-year average of 70%.

The USDA reports that 21% of the corn crop has been harvested. This is ahead of the five-year average of 18%. The corn rated 64% good/excellent, 24% fair and 12% poor/very poor.

As of September 29, the USDA reported that 81% of the soybean crop was dropping leaves. This is ahead of the five-year average of 73%. An estimated 26% of the soybean crop was harvested, ahead of the 18% five-year average. The crop condition was rated at 64% good/excellent, 25% fair and 11% poor/very poor.

The USDA forecast that 39% of winter wheat across the 18 top-growing states had been planted. This is ahead of the five-year average of 13%. Additionally, 14% of winter wheat across 14 top-growing states was out of the ground. That is ahead of the five-year average of 13%.
