The USDA’s weekly crop report indicated that 67% of corn and 68% of soybeans are in good to excellent condition. This is an increase from the same time last year when 57% of the corn and 54% of the soybeans were in good to excellent shape.

Illinois had the most corn in good to excellent shape at 81%. Iowa and Missouri followed at 77% each. As of August 4, 88% of the corn was silking, which compares to 90% last year but is even with the five-year average. Forty-six percent was in the dough stage compared to 44% last year and a five-year average of 38%.

Louisana leads the way in soybean condition, with 83% rated in good to excellent condition. Iowa followed at 76% and Illinois at 75%. Eighty-six percent of the soybeans are blooming compared to 78% last year and a five-year average of 84%. Fifty-nine percent are setting pods compared to 61% last year and a five-year average of 56%.
