Black angus cow looking directly at cameraAs we wrap up 2024, the data shows that beef remains a hit with consumers despite higher prices. The Livestock Marketing Information Center recently announced consumer demand has been strong in 2024, with the first three quarters seeing year-over-year increases. End meats have made up much of the volume, while middle meats have seen slightly less demand.

Beef production has remained fairly steady year over year. Reports from mid-November indicated production was down 0.5% compared to 2023. It’s expected to match last year’s production by the end of 2024.

Beef from non-feed cattle was down this year, including that from cow slaughter. Feedlot inventory is less robust than in previous years, leading to increased prices for cattle and calves. This will likely continue through the rest of the year.
