Bird flu has been confirmed in an additional 24 dairy herds in California since Aug. 30, according to new data from the USDA. The total for the state is now 34 herds, making it the state with the second-highest number of infected herds. Colorado had the highest number of infected herds at 64. The illness has been confirmed in 232 outbreaks across 14 states.

While most dairy cattle recover from the H5N1 avian flu (bird flu), they can experience fever, reduced appetite and lower milk production while sick.
