The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry advanced Brooke Rollins’ nomination for secretary of agriculture to the full Senate by a 23 to 0 vote. Rollins is anticipated to have enough votes to clear the Senate confirmation.

Rollins promised to distribute disaster aid rapidly, address disease outbreaks and modernize the USDA during her confirmation hearing. To address the recent tariffs proposed by President Trump, Rollins said she would follow similar plans to former Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue. He oversaw the distribution of approximately $23 billion in emergency funding to help offset the impact of tariffs on farmers.

Rollins did not directly address the impact of current immigration policies or if she would cut funding from the nutrition program.

Senate Ag Chairman John Boozman said Rollins is a dedicated public servant who will advocate for rural America at the USDA. She understands the unique circumstances that farm families face and the current challenges in rural communities.

Rollins was relatively unknown outside of political circles before her nomination. Her fundamental knowledge of agriculture helped her secure backing from more than 415 farmers, agricultural and growers groups.
