The USDA reports pasture conditions in Midwestern states continue to deteriorate. In Nebraska, 57% of pastures rank in poor-to-very poor condition. Iowa reports that 37% of pastures are in poor-to-very-poor condition. In Oklahoma, 51% of pastures are in poor-to-very-poor condition.

Several Delta and Southeastern states also saw a decline in pasture conditions. Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico witnessed positive changes in pasture conditions. New Mexico saw the most significant improvement with 36% of pastures now ranking in poor-to-very-poor conditions.

Overall, producers across the nation are hoping for rain to improve pasture conditions going into the late fall and winter months. Across the 48 states, 22% of pastures are very poor, 26% are poor, 29% are fair, 19% are good and 4% are excellent.
