The USDA will begin distribution of $2.14 billion to eligible agricultural producers and landowners through conservation and safety-net programs. This includes $1.7 billion from the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and the CRP Transition Incentive Program (CRP TIP). More than $447 million in Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) payments will be distributed for 2023 crops.

Currently, CRP enrollment stands at nearly 26 million acres. For fiscal year 2023, 1.44 million acres were newly enrolled in Grasslands CRP. New enrollments were paused after Sept. 30, 2024, due to the expiration of the 2018 Farm Bill. Contracts for nearly 186,000 acres were approved before this deadline.

The top states for CRP acreage include:

  • Colorado at 2,978,741 acres
  • South Dakota at 2,626,430 acres
  • Nebraska at 2,423,361 acres
  • Texas at 2,225,310 acres
  • Kansas at 2,040,412 acres
