As of October 20th, the fall harvest was entering the final stretch with 65% of the corn and 81% of the soybeans harvested. That places the corn harvest 10% ahead of the five-year average while the soybean harvest is 14% ahead of the five-year average.

The USDA Crop Progress report revealed that 98% of the corn is mature. This is 3% ahead of the five-year average. Dry conditions and near-to-above-normal temperatures should allow the harvest to progress at a rapid pace.

Minnesota reports 95% of the soybeans harvested. In Iowa, 91% of the soybeans have been harvested, and Illinois reported that 76% of the soybean crop had been harvested.

At the same time, winter wheat planting progress continues, with 73% planted. This is 3% behind the five-year average of 76%. Progress in Oklahoma continues to trail other states with 55% of the winter wheat planted. As of October 20th, 46% of the winter wheat had emerged. That is 5% behind the five-year average of 50%.
