The Washington State Tree Fruit Association (WSTFA) predicts the 2024 fresh apple crop will be 124 million forty-pound boxes. This aligns with recent historic norms and follows a smaller 2022 crop of 103.9 million boxes and a larger 2023 crop of 136.1 million boxes.

The 2024 crop benefits from moderate weather, promising high quality across all varietals. Washington state produces over 90% of the nation’s organic apples. These organic apples represent 16% of the crop, reflecting growing consumer demand.

The five most popular varietals—Gala, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Fuji—remain dominant, with Cosmic Crisp rising to 9%. At $2 billion, apples represented 16% of the state’s total farm-gate agricultural value in 2022.
