Despite heavy rains in May that reduced yields in low-lying areas, Wisconsin’s potato crop looks promising. Due to an abundance of rain, statewide crop damage ranges from 5% to 10%. While the last growing season featured hot and dry weather, there were over 14 inches of rain in the month of May.

Wisconsin has approximately 66,000 acres of potato farmland, similar to last year’s acreage. In 2023, Wisconsin shipped 700.7 million pounds of potatoes or 9%, putting them in third place behind Idaho at 39% and Colorado at 20%.

The USDA reported that the annual shipping point price for Wisconsin potatoes was $18.81 per carton in 2023. This was up slightly from $18.48 per carton in 2022.
