Corn TasselingThe USDA released its most recent Crop Progress report on July 22. According to the agency, corn in the good/excellent condition category dropped one percentage point (from 68% to 67%). The poor/very poor category increased by one percentage point (from 9% to 10%) in the same period. The report also indicated that 60% of the crop in the top 18 corn-producing states has reached the silk growth stage.

Across the top 18 soybean-growing states, 65% of the crop has reached the blooming growth stage. This is both ahead of last week and the five-year average. Soybean conditions remain the same as in the previous report:

  • Good/excellent: 68%
  • Fair: 24%
  • Poor/very poor: 8%

As for oats, 95% of the crop in the top nine states has reached the heading growth stage. Crop conditions remain the same as in the last report:

  • Good/excellent: 66%
  • Fair: 23%
  • Poor/very poor: 11%

Finally, the top six spring wheat states are reporting 89% of the crop has reached the heading growth stage. Crop conditions remain nearly the same as in the last report:

  • Good/excellent: 77% (no change)
  • Fair: 18% (previously 20%)
  • Poor/very poor: 5% (previously 3%)
