The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hopes to sequester 1 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide by funding climate-smart projects across 30 states. Total funds dedicated to these programs totals $4.3 billion.

Several projects focus on climate-smart farming practices and livestock waste management strategies — including programs in Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota and Montana. Other initiatives included in the grant will put funds toward renewable energy projects and carbon sequestration.
