The USDA announced that Vietnam has granted market access for California peaches and nectarine. The USDA Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Lester Moffitt explained that APHIS team members worked diligently to open this market.

USDA Chief Scientist and Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young explained that quality and objective research was essential for Vietnam’s approval and future U.S. industry exports. The industry has been working for quite a while to gain access to this market.

The agreement includes strict production and packing protocols. California stone fruit shippers have already demonstrated a commitment to meeting the requirements. California Fresh Fruit Association Director of Trade Caroline Stringer said Vietnam is a strategic market because its consumers value high-quality and sweet fruit.
