In the July WADSE report the USDA increased the 2023 sugarbeet harvest by 134,000 short tons to 5.179 million short tons. The 2023 sugarbeet crop was at a record level in some growing regions, including Minnesota and North Dakota. Moorhead, Minnesota-based American Crystal Sugar had a record crop of 12.7 million tons at 18.55% sugar.

The USDA now forecasts a sugarbeet crop of 5.236 million short tons in 2024. This is an increase of 124,816 short tons over the June estimates.

The agency anticipates 1.0886 million acres of sugarbeets will be harvested this fall. The yield is also expected to increase due to the early planting. Sixty-six percent of the crop had been planted by April 28. This compares to a five-year average of 32%.
