The 2024 almond harvest will come in at 2.8 billion meat pounds, a decrease of 7% from the USDA’s May forecast. The 2023 harvest came in at 2.47 billion pounds. Carryout is projected to drop to unprecedented levels as almond shipments set a record for ten months in a row, coming in at 212 million pounds shipped.

Clarice Turner, president and CEO of the Almond Board of California, said demand has been strong and continues to grow. The Almond Board expects the almond supply to be similar to what was available in the past 2023-24 crop year. The supply is a combination of the crop size and the carryout from the previous year. The larger crop size is anticipated to make up for the smaller carryout.

The USDA yield forecast is 2,030 pounds per acre. This is an increase from the 1,790 pounds per acre realized in 2023. The average nut per tree forecast is 4,072, an increase from 3,953 in 2023.
