The most recent USDA Crop Progress report revealed that spring wheat in the six wheat-producing states was in great shape. Seventy-five percent of spring wheat is rated in good to excellent condition.

Minnesota leads the way with 88% of its spring wheat crop rated in good/excellent condition. Eleven percent rated as fair and only 1% rated as poor. Ratings for other states include:

  • North Dakota with 81% good/excellent, 16% fair, 2% poor and 1% very poor
  • South Dakota with 75% good/excellent, 23% fair and 2% poor
  • Idaho with 67% good/excellent/29% fair and 4% poor
  • Montana with 65% good/excellent, 30% fair and 5% poor

Washington ranked last among the six spring-wheat-producing states with 56% of the crop rated as good/excellent. Thirty-four percent of the crop rated fair, 8% was poor and 2% was very poor.
