The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service reports a growing two-way trade of organic produce between the U.S. and Mexico. Mexico imports apples, pears, grapes, spinach and lettuce from the U.S. The U.S. imports avocados, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and tomatoes from Mexico.

U.S. organic producers may experience increased demand from Mexico in the future. These products are gaining popularity and are supported by the Mexican Federal administration as environmentally friendly.

Mexico typically supplies to the U.S. organic market during the U.S. production off-season. Despite having free trade agreements with other countries, Mexico targets the U.S. and Canadian markets for organic products due to the proximity. There are more than 2,600 USDA-certified organic operations in Mexico, with a total of 1.4 million acres.
