This week, retail giant Walmart announced plans to build a $350 million milk processing facility in Robinson, Texas. With an expected opening date in 2026, the facility would supply fluid milk to roughly 750 Walmart stores. The announcement follows similar vertical integration efforts in both the dairy and beef spaces, with adjacent processing facilities cropping up in more parts of the U.S.

The dairy processing plant would create nearly 400 jobs and would be the third dairy plant for the grocery chain. Walmart says the new facility will help them support the growing demand for high-quality milk while ensuring a more resilient supply chain. Texas Governor Greg Abbot praises the investment for its economic implications for the state.
