The eight Midwestern states that petitioned to sell E15 permanently year-round won’t get the results they’re looking for in 2024. However, the Biden Administration is set to approve the petition for implementation in 2025. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says he’s confident 2025 will bring E15 “across the country,” and he expects waivers to remain in place for E15 sales this summer.

Renewable fuel groups such as the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) say the Environmental Protection. Agency (EPA) needs to act immediately to provide certainty to the states most impacted by waivers and the petition. Geoff Cooper, CEO of the RFA, says the EPA legally has 90 days to approve a petition. The petition was initially submitted in April 2022.
