The potential for ice jams on frozen rivers has raised concerns about flash flooding, recalling the bomb cyclone of 2019 that created devastating flooding in the Midwest.

However, DTN Meteorologist Teresa Wells said there won’t be a repeat of the 2019 floods thanks to several other factors. For example, the dense fog and cloudy days help limit sun exposure to slow rapid temperature increases. And the warm fall experienced in 2023 helped slow ice buildup on rivers and streams.
